I'm the clinician, and I'm also the kid in the file.

Autistic and ADHD adults belong in this conversation. Not as inspiration. As experts.

I'm the clinician, and I'm also the kid in the file.

My name is Liz Vossenkemper. I am a developmental-behavioral pediatric nurse practitioner with a clinical background in autism and ADHD. I am also the kid in the file. I am autistic and ADHD. I am here to help you understand the wiring of your child, not the compliance of their behavior.

MSN, ARNP, CPNP, PMHS

What I actually believe

1

Behavior is communication, not defiance.

When a child's behavior is a signal, it's not a problem. It's a message. I believe in listening to the nervous system, not punishing the behavior.

2

Neurodivergence is a difference in wiring, not a deficit in character.

My brain works differently. That doesn't mean it's broken. It means it's wired for a different kind of intelligence and experience.

3

Parents are not the problem.

It's not your fault. It's not your failure. It's the system. I believe in holding space for parents to be human, not a clinical failure.

4

Plain language is a clinical skill.

Using simple words to explain complex neurological differences is a skill. It's how we build trust and reduce the fear of the unknown.

5

Autistic and ADHD adults belong in this conversation.

They are not inspiration. They are experts. I believe in a world where neurodivergent adults are seen as the ones who know best.

A note for some families

If your child has higher support needs, is non-speaking, or communicates in ways this material doesn't picture, the principles here still hold — but the examples won't always fit. That's a limit of my writing, not of your child. If I've gotten something wrong for your family, I want to know.

Our Mission

To create a community where neurodivergent families, caregivers, educators, and clinicians can come together in a shared space of understanding, connection, and relief. This Village is built for anyone who has ever felt alone in the maze of systems, appointments, behavior plans, labels, and expectations that never quite fit their child, or themselves. Here, difference is honored. Curiosity is welcomed. Questions are met with care, not judgment. And every person, parent, provider, child, or ally is offered a seat at the table.

Our Vision

We envision a world where the people responsible for caring for neurodivergent children, parents, clinicians, educators, therapists, and caregivers, are no longer working in isolated corners, exhausted and overwhelmed. Instead, we see a future where these relationships move from parallel tracks to shared ground. Where insights are exchanged, not guarded. Where lived experience and professional knowledge stand side by side, not in hierarchy. Where families don't have to translate their child's needs to every new person in their life, because the community already speaks the language of neurodivergence.
